There is a notable difference between speed and performance, and this is even truer when it comes to electric cars, which tend to be more powerful than their gasoline rivals. This often leads us to believe they are more performant, but that's not always the case. Finally, Hyundai has clarified this distinction with the IONIQ 5 N, which hits the market this year.

Since it arrived on the market, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 has quickly ranked among the most popular electric vehicles. The model has everything it takes to appeal, with its retro-modern look and cutting-edge technology. Moreover, the IONIQ 5 offers quite impressive performance in its all-wheel-drive version, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of under 5.2 seconds. However, the Korean manufacturer decided to take the concept even further by calling on its performance division, which gave birth to the IONIQ 5 N 2025.

Range and Price

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 2025 comes in only one configuration, which is not unusual for this type of vehicle. It's important to understand that the Korean manufacturer's SUV is part of a complete lineup and is positioned at the top. Thus, buyers expect the best the model has to offer, which explains why there's only one N variant available. Now, as for the price, it starts at $78,199 before transport and preparation fees, bringing it to $80,866. It's not within everyone's budget, but it's well worth it.

Category and Competition

Many people mistakenly think that the Hyundai IONIQ 5 is a car, but that's not quite the case. The model is more of an SUV or crossover in its shape and dimensions. Nevertheless, it remains extremely popular, perhaps even more so. There isn't much competition in the segment yet, as performance models are still rare. In fact, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N currently has only two real competitors: the Mustang Mach-E GT and the Kia EV6 GT. One could also add the Tesla Model Y with its Performance version.

Design and Technology

I have to say I really like what the designers have done with the IONIQ 5 N. They didn't overdo it but managed to add enough details to show that this is a different and more powerful model. Hyundai chose the iconic performance blue for the model's launch—a stunning color—but this sporty SUV offers several other interesting shades.

Just like the standard model, the interior of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N has a retro and modern flair, which is actually quite pleasing. It's far from a dull design, as is often the case for this type of electric vehicle. There are also several distinctive elements inside the N version, especially in the stitching and trim.

When it comes to technology, I personally find Hyundai's overall experience more engaging than that of its rivals. The navigation is smooth, and the menus are easy to navigate, with a pleasant display. The driver assistance technologies are effective without being intrusive.

Performance

Now let's talk about performance, as it's the most crucial point for this model. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is equipped with two electric motors delivering a combined output of 601 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque. More power can be extracted thanks to the N Grin Boost mode, which temporarily boosts it to 641 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque. This allows the Korean manufacturer's beast to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. This isn't the only impressive spec, as the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is powered by an 84 kWh battery pack. This provides enough energy to offer a range of 356 kilometers on a full charge.

Weak Points

This version isn't within everyone's budget. It's a rather heavy vehicle, and unfortunately, you can feel that weight on winding roads.

Strong Points

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is very fast, with blazing acceleration. It remains highly practical and functional despite its sporty nature. The build quality is impressive.

Signature Element

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 N 2025 is the kind of vehicle you buy simply to have fun.

Final Thoughts

I've had the opportunity to try several N models over the past few years, and I can tell you that the Korean manufacturer has chosen the right ingredients to form a solid base for its recipe. There hasn't been a Hyundai performance model that has disappointed me—quite the opposite. The Korean manufacturer clearly has a winning formula, and buyers who choose the IONIQ 5 N are unlikely to regret it. That's why I strongly recommend this model.
